Painted by hand onto the reverse of an antique mirror, Bowie is depicted in greyscale with the iconic lightning bolt cutting across his face, surrounded by rich reds, turquoise, black and metallic gold. Behind him sits a large distressed gold halo, with sweeping gold brushwork and scattered stars creating an almost celestial backdrop — a nod to the otherworldly character Bowie created throughout his career. The aged gold frame is very much part of the artwork. Its imperfections, texture and history contrast with the contemporary portrait inside, making this a completely unique statement piece.
