During Covid, I decided I wanted a Sphynx cat. But not just any Sphynx. I wanted a bold, grumpy-looking, wrinkly little character and I already knew exactly what I was going to call him.
Dave. Why Dave?
My best friend, who lives about 100 miles away, is also called Dave. Human Dave is wonderfully grumpy, rather unsociable and isn't particularly impressed with this whole getting-older business.
He's forever worrying about his wrinkles, his appearance and the fact that his hair might be getting a tiny bit thinner...Shhh. We don't talk about that.
I missed seeing him during Covid, so somehow my solution was to get myself a wrinkly, grumpy Sphynx and name it after him.Perfectly normal behaviour.
Dave Cat came to me at eight months old and quickly became my little shadow. He's been by my side ever since, and I absolutely love him to pieces.❤️
And then Dave became art...When I decided to create my own original character, the inspiration had been sitting beside me all along.
I took the wrinkles, huge ears and unmistakable looks of the real Dave and turned the personality up a few notches.
I gave him a big pink belly, his IT'S A DAVE THING T-shirt, a fishbone necklace, sardines, catnip, a couple of questionable mouse friends and absolutely NO REGRETS.And just like that...Dave Cat was born.
His first painting may be finished, but Dave's story definitely isn't.He's got places to go, food to eat, questionable decisions to make... and possibly even a love life to find.
Welcome to the adventures of Dave Cat. It's a Dave Thing. ❤️
